The most urgent problem facing humanity at this point in time is the environment. Everyone talks about it, but many choose to seat on the fence and do nothing to heal the wounds. Many others go to extremes making it look like earth is a being that needs to be worshipped in order to get everything back to normal.

There are 1001 theories out there about the reason our ozone layer is giving, about how the earth is warming up, about how, come 2012 we are all going to be transformed into god knows what. We are born, we live our miserable lives, die at a certain point and who knows for sure, reborn in another body. Many say the earth is undergoing a process of rebirth. Yet others believe whatever is wrong with the earth is as a result of human overexploitation of her natural resources most of which is used in a way that harms the planet. In other words, we have been burning our candles from both ends.

Outside of all these theories which many cite just so they can have an excuse not to act when they are given the opportunity are some immutable facts:

The source of fossil energy is mostly crude oil which extraction is doing a lot of damage to the planet.

A major source of green house gases are the grossly inefficient transportation systems we use to get ourselves from point A to B. The emissions from the tailpipe have been accumulating in the atmosphere over the years and are thought by many to be one of the major culprits.

At the same time this has been happening, common sense applications that could have been made part of our transportation system to at least reduce the magnitude of the problem, or even take control of it were never implemented because of greed.
