Car maker develops its own flower species

Toyota has created two flower species that absorb nitrogen oxides and take heat out of the atmosphere.

The flowers, derivatives of the cherry sage plant and the gardenia, were specially developed for the grounds of Toyota’s Prius plant in Toyota City, Japan.

The sage derivatives leaves have unique characteristics that absorb harmful gases, while the gardenia’s leaves create water vapour in the air, reducing the surface temperature of the factory surrounds and, therefore, reducing the energy needed for cooling, in turn producing less carbon dioxide (CO2).

This is a very big shot in the arm for environmentalists. The possibilities for this technology is virtually unlimited. This is the kind of technology that market leaders like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other industry leaders should be investing a lot of money on.

Considering that greening of rooftops of sky scrappers is the norm these days, these
plants would be the best if not the only option for rooftop gardens. It should even inspire everyone who has not yet started to green their buildings to start now.

With this technology it is possibly to build glass domes virtually anywhere where weather conditions are not very welcoming. You name it, be it Mars, Venus, the Moon or maybe just the Sahara Desert, this is the ultimate solution to our environmental problems.

Now, it is possible that this technology, like many of its kind that has been hidden from public view, has been under development for a long time. It is also possible that its application has already been spread far and wide or perhaps not. What ever the case may be, I believe all responsible entities should embrace this technology and if necessary use genetic engineering to further enhance the seeds so that they can produce plants fast growing and higher quality plants.

This is an ward winning invention that Toyota should be very proud of. It shows that this company is an environmentally conscious and responsible company deserving of emulation by its peers and worthy of respect by all environmental activists everywhere.

Going green should not have to be the preserve of governments and multinational companies only. Those who clamor for change and others who worry or care about the environment have a responsibility to play their part too. Besides trying to get the seeds to these plants and using it in their own backyards, everyone ought to be playing other active roles by using other methods to be part of the green revolution. I have a review of three great energy saving methods here that anyone can use to reduce their dependence on the national power grid, reduce pollution and get the user more bang for their money. Please go there now and become part of the race to reclaim our planet.
