Tapping Into Solar Energy

Hurricane Sandy did a very sordid job, crippling the Big Apple.  Nobody cripples the Big Apple.  Hurricane Sandy however did just that.  We know for sure that hurricane Sandy is no human being, but a powerful force of nature.  It is gone now, but almost out of nowhere, comes a snowstorm which prompts the New York Times to proclaim "God Hates Us."

This ongoing problem in New York indicates how vulnerable and helpless we as humans can become in the face of natural disasters.

Listening to a radio show recently, one New Yorker being interviewed, one day before the elections moaned a lot about the lack of electric power, how they had to start up their car to charge their cell phones, and how they had ran out of propane and now had to bear the cold and grin while waiting to refresh their supply.  This was before election night.

On election night, this same respondent was happy that they now had a generator going that is providing heat.

My thought on hearing all this was that It was just out of context for highly intelligent people living in New York to allow themselves to suffer like this when there are alternative energy sources available to provide temporary relieve in lieu of when power can be restored.

It is usually a good guess when power can be restored but why wait and chance another disaster that is going to further cripple the system.  Why risk ones life when the money is there to make things right.
